Ameya Bondre

Ameya Bondre serves as Director of Research at WorldBeing India.

He is a public health researcher with nearly fifteen years of experience in community-based observational, implementation, and health systems research across diverse rural and urban settings in India. He previously led large-scale mental health research projects at Sangath, Bhopal, where he served as Director of Research, and Principal Investigator. These projects were developed in collaboration with Harvard Medical School, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-Bhopal), National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, and funded by the Wellcome Trust, UK, National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR, UK), and Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, India. His work included character-strengths based, work-stress reduction interventions for rural community health workers (ASHAs), integrating depression care into rural primary health systems, and promoting adolescent mental health across government schools in Bhopal, India.

Ameya has translated rigorous research into scaled, real-world impact throughout his career. He played a critical role in drafting the first national consensus guidelines on management of childhood developmental disorders, published by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics in 2017, and his earlier work building digital maternal health solutions deployed through frontline health workers has been implemented across nine Indian states. His research has been recognised by the World Bank's Ideas for Action Prize, Millennium Alliance-USAID, and the MIT Solve Challenge (2019), Yale University, and TEDx (2018), among others.

Ameya holds an MBBS from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai (2010), and a Master of Science in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University (2012).
